This week's library picks were . . . not so wonderful. I guess that is what I get when I pick out books for boys while they play on the story time mat. So, we only have one book that was read over and over again, but trust me - it is TERRIFIC!
The Day The Crayons Quit - In this adorable book, each of Dylan's crayons writes a complaint letter. Blue is over-used. Purple doesn't like going out of the lines. Gray is worn out from coloring all the huge animals like elephants, rhinos, hippos, and humpback whales. This author is very clever. The boys love that each crayon has a different voice - so, make sure you read it that way! ;)
We tried going to the library for fresh picks today but it was closed for training. Better luck next week!

My Little Bookworms' Picks
One of my favorite times of the week is our trip to the library! I love how the boys say goodbye to each book as they put it in the book return slot. (Sometimes they cry and ask the librarian if they can keep it for another week. So sweet.) I love how they are so excited they can't be super library quiet - they are quieter than normal. :/ I love how each child knows where their favorite books can be found. My boys are book lovers which makes this momma happy because there is nothing I like more than cuddling and reading with my sweet little bookworms!
However, their excitement means we often leave the library with many - I mean MANY - books and only a few are worth reading more than once. So, I thought I would let the boys tell me their favorite book from the week and post it here to help other moms trying to make boys into book lovers. Who knows, I might even end up posting one of my favorites!
Without further ado . . .
This Is Not My Hat - This book made the boys laugh and laugh! A little fish is confessing about his latest steal - a hat. He is convinced that he will not get caught . . . probably. All the while the true owner is right on his tail.
Open Very Carefully - The ugly duckling is trying to read his story when an alligator comes into his book! The boys loved rocking the book to put the gator to sleep and shaking the book in an attempt to get him out. Then, the alligator chews a hole right through the back of the book!
Piggies in Pajamas - This rhyming book's appeal probably came from the fact that my piggies try to party at bedtime every night. I loved the ending! So sweet!
Now, on to the library to check out some more wonderful reads!

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things - Veggies!
I made the mistake last week of trying to serve my family brussel sprouts. I had only had them once before and remembered thinking they were disgusting. However, there are not many veggies I don't like, so I figured they were just cooked poorly. Well, let me tell you - there is a reason why brussel sprouts are the brunt of all vegetable jokes. Danny and I choked them down while trying to convince the boys to finish theirs. Oh well! Live and learn!
There are, however, some vegetables that my boys ask for again and again . . .
The first . . . Steam Fresh Sugar Snap Peas! Find them in your freezer section. Pop them in the microwave. Easy enough!
The second is a "recipe" for green beans. My boys ate thirds and asked for more the next day. I took frozen green beans and poured them into a glass baking dish. Then, I sprinkled them with dry Italian dressing mix and covered them with aluminum foil. 350 degrees for an hour or so. So yummy!
Not many moms are blessed with boys who ask for salads for snack and want to eat the mashed pea baby food, but I am thankful to be one! Hope one of these veggies get your kiddos eating green too!

Danny and I got the opportunity to reminisce over the past year last night. We talked about the highs and lows, the ways we have grown, the lessons we have learned about God, and how much has changed since last January. Boy, are we blessed! Even though we spent half of 2013 apart, we are able to celebrate this new beginning together!
Then, we chatted about what we see ourselves doing in 2014. We shared our goals, ambitions, and challenges. I love that I have a man who will pray with me and over me! :D Once again - BLESSED!!! And now for my . . .
1. Read Through the Bible ~ I am joining a group of Facebook ladies (some I have met and some I have only met through cyberspace) for accountability and discussion. I am one to do things on my own, so I was hesitant at first. However, just after the first two days I can tell we are going to build a unique bond as we travel the scriptures together.
2. Peace ~ I want to be at peace with the mom and wife I am. I will find peace in my home even if it is not perfectly clean and we are eating pancakes for dinner . . . again. I pray my boys will live in peace with one another.
3. Nurture Relationships ~ I am not so great at keeping up with relationships. I could blame it on the time I spend taming the wild beasts, but the truth is I need to make the time to call/write/message the ones I love to let them know I care about them and that I am interested in what is going on in their lives.

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things . . . Sippy Cups!
I have a love-hate relationship with sippy cups. I love that they keep the water, milk, juice off of my carpet. I love that my kiddos can stay well hydrated in the car, at the playground, and on walks without spills. I love that they come in a variety of colors so my kids can tell whose is whose. (Of course, they can also fight over who gets the one with airplanes and who had the green one.) BUT . . . I hate cleaning them. They either have little parts that get lost in the garbage disposal or you have to clean with a toothpick and who has time for that? And, I don't care how "leak proof" the cup claims to be - after my boys have thrown it and I have run over it with the stroller there is no such thing as "leak proof". I also can't stand when the plastic parts turn all yellowish and cloudy . . . when they are clean! Yuck!
On a recent trip to visit my momma (who is wonderful in every way), she gifted us with WOW cups. I was leery as to how well they would work. They don't have a spout but a rim that is 360 degrees sip-able! The verdict is in and this cup is a huge success! They have yet to leak and are so easy to clean! Just pop the lid apart and wash. No yucky plastic parts or leaky lids. I am one happy momma!
