So, I already have my second box ready to ship! I promise it will slow down, but here at the beginning we could all use a little extra love.
This box has a basketball theme starring Danny's Tarheels!
It contains:
- a toy basketball net and ball
- a Tervis - since Danny is a fish when it comes to water
- a cork board and push pins for hanging all the art Jonah sends
- a reading light for his Kindle because he has turned into a bookworm
- gum and mints
- chapstick
- more brownie in a mug mixes
- travel version of Battleship
all of which have sappy notes stuck to them!
I was going to make cookies, but I was afraid they would end up tasting like the mints and gum. They will make it into the Easter basket box I guess. I am going to start decorating that one tomorrow!

Dear John
Well, my "runner's high" has worn off. After the first few days I felt like I was going to be able to make it no problem. Then the week got long, the kids got whiny and grumpy, I got tired, even the weather got yucky. I was having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day . . . when a package arrived.
I LOVE to get mail. Not the bill kind but the somebody thought of you and decided you were worth the stamp kind. So, a package really made me excited! I knew it had to be from Danny and open it right away. This is what I find -
A boyfriend pillow! Isn't it great? I guess you can't really appreciate it until you actually let it hold you and it really feels like your boyfriend/husband. Just trust me - it is amazing!
So, I did what any sweet wife would do. I send a thank you email that went like this:

Dear John,
I never thought I would do this. I am so sorry. It just all happened so fast. One day I am laying in bed alone and the next his arm was around me. You left and it was like he was delivered on my door step. I just couldn't help but open up and cuddle with him. I am sorry to hurt you. I'm glad you understand I need someone to hold me and you can't do that from miles away.
Serves him right, the smarty pants! :D Now, time to go cuddle!

Love In A Box
Today was the first day that I have not felt totally overwhelmed. I am sure that feeling will come back but I am going to enjoy the strength I had today. One of the events that made today so wonderful was getting to send off Danny's first care package. I know it sounds crazy but getting this box out has been one of the things stressing me the most. I want to be a good wife, and while I know he has no expectations, I want him to be proud of me and feel love from me. It made me so excited to get some love shipped his way. I feel so close to him when I plan out the "ingredients" and fill the box with notes and gifts. It was even decorated! So, without further ado . . . Danny's 1st Box!!!
I realize you can't make out what is in it, but the numerous paper bags are part of the fun. In the past, I have been able to send something for Danny to open each day while he has been away at trainings. However, none of his trainings have been anywhere near this long. He barely had room for the "Word Of The Day" jar I made him. I also can't even guess when each package will actually make it into his hands so I can't date the packages to be opened on a certain day. With each prize wrapped individually he won't see all the contents right away and he can open them as fast or as slowly as he wants. I also got to write little notes on each bag.
His box includes:
- a pair of PT socks he left and I know he will need
- banana chips from his four little monkeys
- popcorn because I miss him so much I am about to POP!
- a shirt he has been wanting that says "I like running because I really love dessert"
- trail mix bars because I am about to go "nuts" without him
- a green mug with mix to make brownie in a mug (with green M&Ms)
- Nutella samples because any food they serve will taste better with that stuff
- The bottom is full of shiny green grass.
I am proud of my first box. The second one is already decorated and ready to be filled. Now, I just have to wait until he gets there and lets me know some things he needs.
Oh, and for all you who are thinking "Danny can see this and won't even be surprised." He has been instructed not to read this post and he is a very obedient husband. :D

A Rough Start
I knew it was coming since last June, but somehow I managed to convince myself that it would never arrive. Needless to say it kept coming closer and closer whether I wanted it to or not. I tried to will the clock to stop ticking. Two hours before I knew he had to leave I laid awake wishing time could stand still. Even as he drove away I thought he might turn around and come back to get something he had forgotten. When he called I just knew he was going to say, "They canceled the war. I'm coming home." But that is not what happened. He just kept driving and now he is gone. I couldn't stop time.
However, since I can't stop time that means the day of reunion only gets closer. That doesn't make goodbyes any easier. I think saying goodbye was the hardest part. Once I came to realize that goodbye was reality I could start finding ways to cope and continue on.
Once he left and I was standing sock footed in the driveway I started asking myself how I had gotten myself into such a mess. Four boys three and under with an amazing husband who is now going to be thousands of miles away? What was I thinking? Then I realized I didn't get myself into this "mess". God placed me here as part of his perfect plan. HE gave me a love for Danny. HE blessed us with four handsome boys. HE called us to the Army and HE is going to do marvelous things in and through us during this time. That doesn't take away the hurt or the tears but it gives me strength.
What hurt the most was dealing with the boys. Poor Eli, a Daddy's boy if there ever was one, woke up looking for Danny. He bypassed me and searched everywhere. When Danny was nowhere to be found he broke down crying. I gave Jonah his "Daddy Doll" only to be informed that he missed his real Daddy. Huxton and Eli both cried out for Danny at bedtime after I had left the room. I sat in my bedroom as Jonah calmed them down and said, "I know you miss Daddy, but he will be back in the morning time." If only that were true. Jonah asked me "Why did Daddy leave us?" As much as I try to explain he doesn't fully understand. How can he? He's three. They are making such a sacrifice and don't even know it. I cry for them because Danny won't be at Jonah's first soccer game or Benaiah's first crawl, at Huxton and Eli's 2nd birthday or on our family vacation. He won't be here to play in the backyard or tickle them after bath time. Even I miss those things. It hurts to see others or myself doing what Danny has always done. I want them to remember him and in my hormonal mind it seems like replacement.
Today was better. I few less tears. A little more confident. One more day closer to seeing him again. So, I am asking for prayers. Please pray for Danny's safety and that he will have many opportunities to share Christ with the soldiers. Pray for my little boys that they would have an understanding beyond their years. Pray that they won't forget their Daddy but will learn to love him from afar. Pray that they will fall into a new schedule and behave like the little men I know they can be. Pray for those that are supporting us as they have extra demands added to their already busy lives. I appreciate your prayers because I know they are spoken out of love for us and are delivered to a God who can bring us perfect peace.

Our Family Grew By Two Feet!
I am so excited to now be a mommy of four handsome and precious little boys. We welcomed Benaiah Daniel Melin to the world on February 11, 2013 at 4:02 in the afternoon. He weighed 7 lbs 3 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. He is absolutely adorable and has the biggest feet!
We went into the hospital for the induction on Sunday night. Monday was the first day to schedule an induction and it also happened to be Jonah's birthday. So, along with the fifty other bags we had packed, we also packed a small present for Jonah to open when he came to visit. The night was uneventful. I had asked if I could get up at 5 the next morning to take a shower. The nurse said that was the plan and that she would come get me up. Well, I was awake by 4:50 ready to start the day. Danny wasn't so enthusiastic. What? That couch bed wasn't the most comfortable thing ever and the constant beeping didn't just lull you right to dreamland? So, I took it upon myself to disconnect all my monitors and get in the shower. I think I might be a veteran :D A few minutes into my shower Danny comes in and says to make it snappy because the nurse found out I wasn't suppose to be off the monitors for 4 hours and was going to count this as a long potty break! She was going to come in and tell me in the morning and hadn't counted on me getting up so early. I rushed back to my bed with my hair still in a towel so I could get back on those monitors. Thankfully I have curly hair and I can do it laying in bed. I was also thankful I was a renegade shower taker because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten one!
The doctor came in to visit but couldn't break my water. He said he would be back at lunch. Woohoo! What to do for four hours? Well, my daytime nurse came in to ask me if I minded if a male nursing student came in the room. Do I mind??? I have had a baby before. I think for the twins there were 59 people in the room. Come on in! The more the merrier! Lucky for him because we were the only patients that said yes. Turns out he was from North Georgia and was commissioning. He spent the morning in our room chatting with Danny. It was a great distraction.
The other task of the morning . . . getting the worst epidural of my life! Okay, so I haven't had that many, but out of 3 this was the worst. My epidural with Jonah left a hot spot and I couldn't feel my legs. My epidural with the twins was wonderful. I could move about and feel everything but my contractions - the whole point of an epidural! This time I could feel everything but my legs which I couldn't feel until 8 hours after it was taken out.
When the doctor came back I was 3 1/2 cm. He ordered pitocin and said we would have a baby by dinnertime. Good thing because my mom "forgot" to bring my biscuit when she brought Danny's, and Danny didn't remember to get me lunch when he got his! They starved me all day long! I was beyond hungry!
Around 3:00 I told Danny that I felt funny. He got the nurse and she said I was 7cm and to call her if I felt any different later on. Twenty minutes later Danny asked me what was wrong. Gotta love a man who can read every look on your face. I told him I did feel different but not to get the nurse because it had only been twenty minutes and she would think I was a crazy pregnant lady. He went anyway - and who was I to stop him with my legs all numb? She came back and said we were ready to have a baby!!! The doctor was called and then . . . everyone but the male nurse and Danny left the room. I warned them that I don't fool around getting babies out, but no one listened. Once the doctor arrived it took one contraction and Benaiah was here! Told ya I don't fool around.
A boy! The first person we called was Jonah:
Us: Your baby is here!
Jonah: Is it a brother or sister?
Us: A brother!
(Long pause, deep sigh)
Jonah: But I wanted a sister!
Poor guy!
We named him Benaiah but had the hardest time finding a middle name. I never wanted to have a "junior" so when Danny offered up Daniel I was surprised. However it is perfect! During this year when things are difficult, lonely, or sad I can look down to see a little part of Danny in my arms. I also have come to think that Danny beyond deserves a namesake. He is a wonderful role model to our boys of what it means to be a godly husband, father, and man of God.
Oh, then they finally fed me. The meal I get every time: Cocoa Puffs and a big bowl and fruit! They brought me two of each. I must have not only felt hungry but looked hungry too!
The next day my three big boys came to visit. Jonah was stand-offish at first because he wanted a sister but then he held him and decided we could keep him :) We couldn't keep Eli off Benaiah. He kept pointing to his eyes and nose, waving and saying "Hey baby", and saying "Cute!" with a cute grin of his own. Huxton couldn't of cared less. He was more interested in the graham crackers the nurses had brought the night before.
I also got my first picture of all my boys together! So much love on that couch! Can you tell Danny is one proud Daddy?
We headed home late Tuesday night so that we would have two full days together before Danny had to leave. It felt so good the first time I could look around and see my whole family together (even if I was wearing a fireman's hat in day-old pajamas). And knowing that it wouldn't last long made it all the more special. I am blessed beyond all I could ever imagine in my wonderful husband and four sweet boys. My God is soooo good!

Jonah Turns Three!
My baby sure is growing up! He insists that he is not my "baby" but I know better. Every year we take a picture of Jonah in Danny's blue shirt. I know I will cry one day when he fills it out. This year you can even see his feet out the bottom! Take a walk down memory lane!
And now for this year . . .
1 year old!
2 years old!
And now for this year . . .
3 years old!

Out of the Mouths . . .
Jonah and I ran some errands today. One of our stops was to Michael's . . .
My Version: We walked around the store once to find everything we needed. We found a dinosaur in the dollar section for Jonah's "prize".
Jonah's Version: We went to the store today to do some errands but we couldn't find any dinosaurs. So we kept our eyes peeled and shopped and shopped and shopped and shopped. Finally, we found the dinosaur aisle! (Imagine - a whole aisle for nothing but dinosaurs. A boy's dream come true.) And I got a T-REX!!! He has sharp teeth and eats meat. I snuck behind a man and ROOOAAARRed and scared him. Then the lady beeped it and gave me money for my piggy bank! (He is referring to the change. :D )
P.S. This man played along with Jonah's dinosaur shenanigans. He asked Jonah if he was going to brush the T-Rex's teeth and what meat he would feed it. Jonah's reply? Spaghetti Os!
