This Memorial Day was also my first as the wife of a soldier - and a very handsome one at that! I am proud to stand behind my solider (even a couple thousand miles behind). Since entering into the Army family I have developed a new love for our country and the men and women who defend it. Okay, to be honest, I now can't even say the pledge without shedding a tear. So thankful for all the soldiers and their families!
Alright, I could write a whole post about my heart toward military families, and my desire to see them join the "Lord's Army" (stop singing that little song) but that will have to wait because what you really want to see are my little guys. :D So . . .
On Saturday, we started the fun by getting up and going to my momma's house. We spent most of the morning outside riding tricycles, playing ball, and feeding the goats. Then, I left for some "Mommy Catch Up On Sleep" time and the boys stayed and "play, play, played" (as Huck says).
On Sunday, we had Praise and Pancakes! I came over in the morning and made the blueberry pancakes. The praise was courtesy of YouTube :D The pancakes were delicious, obviously.
We played outside some more! Can you ever get enough of this beautiful weather? Then, we ate lunch, and the boys took naps. My momma and sister are so amazing! They watched Jonah and Benaiah so I could nap too. Benaiah was suppose to eat at 4 so I figured I would get at least at hour before he started to fuss. TWO HOURS AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES LATER . . . they came to wake me up! Happy girl right here!
Saturday afternoon we spent some more time outside. Maw and Poppy, Aunt Anita, and Dustin came down so the afternoon was extra special. Just imagine! I had so many of my favorite people all sitting under the shade trees on a beautiful spring day.
Jonah had helped mom make homemade strawberry ice cream during nap time, so we all had a special treat. I hear from good sources that I might not be the only one wanting to lick the spoon from the sweetened condensed milk. Oh, the sacrifices mothers make!
The ice cream was REALLY good - and even better if you spread it all over your tummy and face!
I left the party to get a full night's sleep in preparation for the Memorial Day 5K. Benaiah actually let me sleep so I woke up rested and ready to go! I was extremely happy with my run. It was a personal best for me (21:25) and I placed first in the women's division. And to think that I use to hate running :D My boys were so proud that I ran FAST! Sweet things!
Back to my momma's house I went! This time we took the boys to "Hannah's pool". It. Was. Freezing. But, once again, the sacrifices mothers make - and Aunt Ree Ree too! The boys were shivering but didn't want to stop jumping and splashing.
And Benaiah loved all the outdoor time even if he couldn't swim in the frigid water! What a cutie!
So, here is the best part! Danny missed it all, so we have to do it all over again when he gets home! Woohoo! I hope your Memorial Day was just as wonderful!
